NICU Day 3: May 12th, 2014

Another big day for our fighter Emily! She was taken off the CPAP last night and put on high flow oxygen, delivered through a cannula in her nose. Today, they were able to wean her down a bid from the oxygen and get her used to a level closer to room air (the percentage of oxygen in the air that we breath). She did amazing with all the changes to her oxygen, and is need, inf less and less breathing support as each hour passes.

She is getting a lot more alert now- opening her eyes and checking out her surroundings constantly. She knows her mommy and daddy’s voices really well, and turns to try and find us whenever she hears us talking.

Mom is finally getting some milk for her, and while she is being given primarily donor breast milk, she is now starting to get more of mom’s milk as well.
